New GFL speed record set in Paris

If you blinked, you might have missed the Week 3 matchup between the Cairo Scarabs and the Paris Revolution.

In a staggering display of ground-and-pound football, the two clubs combined for 103 carries, only 16 pass attempts, and zero accepted penalties. The clock ran almost without interruption, and the game finished in an official time of just 2 hours and 1 minute, obliterating the GFL record for the fastest game ever played.

The previous record belonged to the legendary “Absolut Zero” game between Oslo and Moscow, a contest moved to Stockholm because of a Russian parakeet funeral and played through a freak blizzard with temperatures 33 degrees below zero.

In this new record-setter, Cairo’s Yash Bajwa carried the ball 32 times for 191 yards and two touchdowns, while the Scarabs’ backup backs added 27 carries for 149 yards. Paris countered with Gaspard Deshaies, who posted 22 carries for 98 yards and a score.

The game moved quickly, but it was anything but gentle. Paris left tackle Louis Besette spent most of the afternoon jawing with Cairo defensive tackle Madu “The Egyptian Snake” Ghanem after nearly every snap.

Cairo finally put the game away with a 72-yard touchdown pass to “Hot Sauce” Williams, sealing a 24-17 win and a permanent place in the record book.
