A major roster shakeup and a sharp offensive showing still were not enough as Tokyo escaped Los Angeles with a 38-30 win.

A New Look in a Prime-Time Shootout

Devils management made massive headlines heading into Week 3, trading away right tackle Liam Cushing, shaking up the roster, and unveiling the new Lit Lab Corp thinktank.

The long-term blueprint may be brilliant, but in the short term Los Angeles came up just short in a 38-30 shootout loss to Tokyo.

The biggest bright spot was the offensive line, which held up shockingly well without Cushing. The Devils fed Anthony DeLuca all day, completely flummoxing Tokyo star pass rusher Nitta, who finished with zero sacks, while Martinez threw two touchdown passes and added a gorgeous scoring quarterback draw.

Ultimately, Tokyo MVP Daichi Yokashi was too precise, using a silent count to neutralize the roaring 180,000-strong crowd.
